Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Unveils Name and Mia Hamm-Inspired Logo, Launches Website

January 17, 2008 - Formally announced in September, the much-anticipated women’s professional soccer league launching in Spring 2009 now has a name, Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). With the unveiling of the league logo and launch of its website, www.womensprosoccer.com, WPS made its official debut today at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) annual convention, taking place through Saturday in Baltimore, Md.

Women’s Soccer Initiative, Inc. (WSII) To Steer WUSA Re-launch

Carson, CA – Women’s Soccer Initiative, Inc. (WSII), a not-for-profit entity dedicated to guide the re-launch of women’s professional soccer in the United States, was announced today. Veteran sports business professional Tonya Antonucci has been named Chief Executive Officer and will lead the re-launch efforts.

Farewell Game for Mia, Julie and Joy

The U.S. Women’s National Team will play its final game of the “Fan Celebration Tour” on Wednesday, December 8 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. The match-up against CONCACAF rival Mexico not only concludes the 10-game Olympic victory tour, but also marks the end of the legendary international careers of Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, and Joy Fawcett.
